I have been trying to reach a solution to this for days now and I am getting nothing. I really appreciate any help,
I have disabled my built in Web cam (which I was told may be incompatible with the device while it is enabled, I have re started the comp several times, re loaded the install CD, and read the manual from page 1 on through. This is my last resort. Thanks for your help. -

HEY GUYS.. heres a FIX for those that needs it .. I found it on another form but this works!! thought I would help!! This isn't only for MPK49 it works for the Mini as well
This took way too long for me to figure out. I couldn't use the MPK49 on my main PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) for more than 6 months, it sucked. The device manager showed an Akai MPK49, but there was a yellow exclamation mark saying the device was not recognized. When opening the Vyzek editor, no Midi In or Midi Out ports were available. It's confusing because there are no drivers for this plug and play device, right? Well, try this and see if it helps:
Right click the Akai MPK49 click "Update Driver Software".
Choose "Browse my computer for driver software".
Search for driver software in this location: "C:\" (or on whatever drive you have Windows installed).
Make sure "Include subfolders" is checked and click next.
It will find a driver that isn't digitally signed (or my PC did anyway), click "Continue Anyway" and it will install the driver.
The wizard will finish with a "Your device has successfully been installed" which was great to see.
Now open Vyzek editor and see if it helped!
I knew right when I opened Vyzek editor that this had fixed the problem, because the software instantly started communicating with the Akai. It worked! I hope this can help someone out.

I just received the MPK Mini and can't get it to work. The lights come on when plugged into my laptop (Windows 7 64 bit), but Windows says that it requires a driver that it can't find and even the Akai editor software that came with it won't recognize the Mini as being plugged in. Which is entirely counter-intuitive as the product was described as being plug-and-play.

Hi there! I have one disturbing problem. I have identically same operating systems on my home laptop and my work laptop, Windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1, 64bit. My work laptop is Lenovo Thinkpad T400 and my home laptop is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo pro. Amilo regonize MPK MINI right away and it's works lawless! But my Thinkpad not regonize my MPK MINI keyboard. That sucks. Can anybody help me? I already try different usb-ports, not working, same result.

I started another thread about this but thought I'd reply here as well. I'm having the same issue with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS which I run on my desktop computer. My Akai MPK61 won't power up if I plug into USB while the computer is on, however if I turn the computer off, plug in the Akai and turn the computer back on the Akai will power up but Windows still won't recognize it. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit on my Macbook and the Akai functions just fine, no problems at all with finding or installing the drivers there.
I followed the steps above to search the C drive, but I get the message that (paraphrasing here): "Windows found the driver but there was an error installing" "Could not find USB Composite Device". Anyone experienced trying to fix using the method above only to get an error message similar to mine?
Hope Akai can help or somebody can point myself and others to the right place to get this resolved. I'm having the exact same issue with my Midisport 4x4 anniversary edition, although my 2x2 anniversary edition works just fine! -

succeed! I browse manual c: drive and subwolders. Now my Mpk mini works! So... plug & pray :/ !

Hey guys my problem has been solved. It was the USB cable that it comes with. Funny thing was that I went to the store and returned it because i had tried it on several PCs and Macs and nothing recognized it...so at the store I asked for them to try to turn on the new one that I got on one of their macs. Well we ended up trying three of them before one worked...all of them had faulty cables.
