How hard can it be answering this question? ?? Nick D, anyone?? 4 day's, no answer... hmmmm....

I recently bought all expansion pack's available for the Live from Akai - would have been nice to actually use them on the unit itself. And no, i don't want to use the 2.0 software on PC - Just standalone.

  • Hey Bams1,

    Thanks for posting!

Expansions cannot be directly installed to the MPC Live but you can load programs from expansions that you are using in the software for use in standalone.

To do this, first load your program in the MPC software. Once the program is loaded, select File > Save Current Program... (be aware that this will deposit the program and audio files to that directory so I would recommend creating a folder that you can store them in temporarily). After the program has saved, you can load the program file and the audio samples (important to load both) to your external drive's root directory, then select the program from MPC's Browser and it will allocate the samples automatically. You can have program files and samples from multiple programs all in the same root directory. When you load the program on the MPC Live from the Browser, it will sort the samples for you into each respective program. Neat!

Loading a program into a project will save the content to the MPC Live's internal memory so you can load a program into the project, eject the drive and get to work!

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thank's Nick.
Are there plans to make a direct install feature on the Live in the near future? I mean, this sounds way more complicated than it should be at the moment.

  • I will certainly pass that along to the development team for you. As with all your feedback, I absolutely recommend submitting this with MPC 2.0 Beta's feedback module. It does look like a lot in text form but in practice, it is not too complicated a process. Load your program in MPC software, save the program with the software, add the saved files to the USB drive, open the program file on the Live - done!

  • Hey everybody,

Just wanted to follow up here regarding using MPC expansions with the Live - if you want to move the entire expansion sound set from your computer, do the following:

    Windows:

To access the content folder for the MPC expansions on your computer, you must enable hidden files in File Explorer. This link will help you enable these directories:

How to Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 7, 8, or 10

The file pathway to access the expansions is: (C: Drive) > Program Data > Akai > MPC > Content

    Mac:

The file pathway to access the expansions is: Go > Computer > (Your hard drive) > Library > Application Support > Akai > MPC > Content

There are folders in the Content directory that contain the entire expansion (for example, araabMUZIK appears as com.akaipro.mpc.expansion.artist.araabmuzik) - Copy these folders to your external memory, connect the external memory to the MPC Live, push the Menu button, select Browser, select the external drive in Browser, sort by programs and there they are!

    Enjoy :)

  • Hi Nick,

Thanks for clarifying that. I found the sample location with some help I found online and transferred them. That's all fine and well, however, seems that the handy tagging function is lost in that process. Is there a reason there isn't a drag and drop function in the MPC 2.0 software in controller mode? Maybe I'm missing it, but the MPC live doesn't seem to show up as a transfer destination for drag and drop. Would be nice, though.

    Andy
