New EIE Pro Driver Crashed My Computer
So I had been waiting eagerly for Akai to release new EIE Pro drivers so then I could update my iMac to El Capitan. So I was finally able to do that last night. However this morning when the update was complete and I installed the new driver, about 10 seconds after turning on my EIE Pro my computer crashed. (I tested it again and the same thing happened). Has this happened to anyone else? If so does anyone have a solution?
-
Hi Josh,
Thanks for posting!
How does the computer crash exactly? Kernel panic? Do you have any error messages that you can share?
There are a lot of things that can cause your computer to crash especially when updating the OS, including a bad update or bad driver install. I haven't seen this come up for anyone else so far.
Basically you should start by going through some standard mac troubleshooting:
1. Repair Disk Permissions
2. Reset SMC
3. Reset PRAM/NVRAM
Afterwards, reinstall the driver:
EIE Pro - OSX 10.11 Driver
Hope this helps! -

Thanks for replying Corey! So I've done everything you recommended and it still crashed my computer. Here's the report, I believe its a kernel panic, but I don't really know what that means:

Hi Josh,
Did you ever contact support per our discussion at this thread?
http://community.akaipro.com/akai_pro...
Combined with your last inquiry, there's a very good chance that this is a malfunction with the EIE Pro, not the driver. I recommend to contact support about this if you have not already. Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:
• Submit Warranty or Service inquiry with our Technical Support team by logging onto the Akai Pro Support Page. Select Warranty or Service Inquiry from the drop down menu.
or
• For quicker support, call your nearest Support Office or International Distributor.
Make sure to reference or link this thread to help out the support team.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions. -

Hey guys this same thing happened to me. I updated the drivers and still doesn't work, doesn't recognize the interface. Any news on this? would love the help!

Hi Boris,
This could indicate a problem with the hardware. Please reach out to your nearest Tech Support team or International Distributor for further assistance. Here are a couple of options that you could choose from:

yes, i think your developers coded the new driver with their feet. it's not hardware and you know it. So make the job done and quickly please!

Hi Boris,
This issue cannot be resolved here on the forum. While it's possible that the driver is playing a part here, more often than not, I've seen kernel panics caused by actual hardware issues. This is sometimes the computer hardware, but because you've already tested with two systems, it's more likely the EIE.
Other possibilities include needed firmware updates for computer components, bad RAM, bad hard-disk, bad OS instell, etc. This article will go through some more troubleshooting steps:
http://www.macworld.com/article/20272...
It could even just be a bad install of the driver or a corrupted .plist file. Reinstall the driver and check out this article from Presonus on deleting your audio device preference file:
http://us.focusrite.com/answerbase/my...
But in the end, it's rare for a driver to cause a kernel panic. Especially this driver. If you continue to have trouble, please reach out to our Tech Support and they'll be happy to help you from there.
Let me know if you have any questions. -

Hey everyone that has this same problem, I have finally found a solution that worked for me! I'm not sure why but over time the .plist files (mentioned by Corey) became corrupt, causing a kernel panic any time I turn on the EIE Pro. So by using the article posted above from Presonus on how to clear those out, the problem was solved! Now if we could just figure out why those darn files become corrupt in the first place that would be great! haha
Thank you Corey for posting that!-
Thanks for confirming that, Josh! I'll keep this in mind if this continues to pop up.
Let me know if you have more questions! -
