Tried to upgrade firmware on MPK25
Hello, I'm running windows 7 64bit. Tried to upgrade my firmware now it displays "upgrade-no firmware" with the only option to erase os. When I hit enter it says "upgrade 00 send sysex". I've followed the instructions in Vyzex MPK25 program and it displays my graphic interface on my pc updating the firmaware. The MPK25 display goes from "upgrade sysex" to "upgrade receiving" but never gets past that point. I have let it sit in the "receiving" mode for over eight hours and nothing changes unless I reset power and then it's the same process all over again. Currently my MPK25 is useless, please help!

You will not need to upgrade the firmware of a new MPK or any MPK as it will not add any features or benefit to the user. If your device is not responding please give us a call for assistance.

Was the MPK25 working fine with midi before you tried to do this firmware update? The update gets sent through the midi in and outs and would have errors if the original drivers weren't talking with the computer at first. Does your 'midi out port activity' read "usb audio device or MPK49 midi port 1"? This will tell you if the Vyzen is sending out the right signal.

I have the same problem with my MPC25 as "the_henchman". I just bought it, so its going back to the store. It will be Akai's problem in few days. There has got to be an easy button pressing solution to fix this, too bad the unit will go back to the factory.

Ae you trying to update the firmware before you have established that the controller is communication and sending midi through the usb? The Vyzex editor will not be needed to get the controller recognized by your computer.

I did establish that the USB device was recognized and drivers loaded. I also had the Vyzex editor up and running receiving key events from the controller before we tried upgrading from 1.02 to 1.05. The update just stopped at "00 Receiving" and of course the upgrade process removed the 1.02 firmware prior to this stage leaving me with no bootable firmware. All I can do is power on the MPK49 at which point it prompts that there is no firmware and provides prompts to update the firmware... always ends up at "00 Receiving" and the update never completes.

Where did you get the mpk49 firmware update from?

It was included with the "MPK49 - Vyzex Preset Editor for Win XP/Vista" under MPK49->Software & Drivers on the official Akai Pro website.
And from the official firmware update PDF, you can see that 1.05 is the recommended version. At least, from the wording below this would be my interpretation:
"Why do I need to upgrade my MPK49 firmware?
Periodically, Akai Professional’s engineers come across ways to improve their products: This can be in
response to feature requests, it could be in performance enhancements or it could also be to apply bug fixes.
When this occurs, the updated firmware is released from the Akai Professional website in the form of a
downloadable archive that users unpack and download to their instrument according to the instructions
supplied with the firmware file. When you update your product’s firmware to the latest version you get the
best possible feature-set coupled with the most stable and reliable operation, so it’s almost always a good
idea to upgrade your product’s firmware when a new release becomes available.
You can find out your current MPK49 firmware by pressing the ‘GLOBAL’ button on MPK49’s front panel and
then the ‘>’ key 11 times until you see ‘Ver X.XX’ in the LCD display. As of the writing of this document, the
current MPK49 version is 1.05, and this is the version that Vyzex MPK49 is certified to work with.
If you do not find any greater revision of the MPK49 firmware available from the Akai Professional website,
don’t worry: This simply means you don’t need to upgrade your firmware and can forget about this PDF
document until such time as a new MPK49 firmware version is released."
I've been working with Nick from Akai tech support. I've tried both 1.03 and 1.05 images with Vyzex, Midi-Ox, and SendSX (using many speeds including slowest). In all cases, I receive the ominous "00 Receiving" but the update refuses to progress. -

Did you check to make sure there wasn't a error next to the device in your manager list? What other usb device or web cameras do you have plugged in or installed on your system?

I have the same issue with MPK25. Tried it on 3 different computers, one Vista and two Windows 7. On all three computers the device is recognized and the drivers seem to work correctly. For one of the computers I've found and installed a new Bios version and a sound driver. Doesn't help.
Also tried Midiox and SendSX with different speed settings.
The fact that the display message switches from 'Send Sysex' to 'Receiving' once you send the file seems to indicate that there is at least some communication between pc and MPK25.
I'm running out of ideas. There's one thing I can still try : to load the file using the midi input. But after that, I suppose I can only bring the device back to the store. I've already spent more than a day on this problem. And hey, I should be playing music. -
-
So the midi input didn't work either.
I tried SendSX once more, and now noticed that the program gives an error message 'undefined error' at the end of the send process.
I checked the sysex file (which i found, by the way, on the AKAI website in the mpk25_vyzex_preset_editor_software_v1.00 package). I'm not a specialist, but I noticed two hexadecimal signs "0D" and "0A" AFTER the closing sign F7.
I removed them and tried to send the file again. This time the sending ended successfully, but MPK25 didn't notice and went on 'receiving'.
Is the file corrupt ?
Anyway : I give up now. I hope that AKAI can provide a solution. In some way, they managed to install the first firmware version, didn't they ? I wonder what tricks they used. -
